Lex Momentum identified fleet cost savings of £2.6m per annum for a leading global technology company

This business wished to identify options for reducing the financial costs of its 3,700 fleet (supplied via Contract Hire and an Employee Car Ownership scheme) and 800 cash takers. Working in partnership with the senior procurement stakeholders, Lex Momentum recommended a variety of cost saving initiatives including incentivising employees to choose tax and fuel efficient cars, reviewing cash allowance levels, reviewing manufacturer choice and contract parameters and consolidating the car policy across the groups business units. £2.6m savings per annum were identified.

Lex Momentum helped a leading consulting and business services group develop an action plan to reduce its average car fleet emissions by 10%, from 153 g/km to 138 g/km.

A FTSE 100 consulting and business services company with an industry leading Corporate Social Responsibility plan wanted to reduce the CO₂ emissions generated from its 1,600 vehicle fleet (1,000 fleet and 600 cash takers).

Lex Momentum worked in partnership with the Group HR Director, Company Secretary, Head of Fleet and various divisional MDs. Recommendations included a new car allocation policy with incentives to choose environmentally-friendly cars. Momentum also made a series of recommendations designed to reduce business mileage and manage the grey fleet drivers. The total effect of these changes would be a reduction of 3,242 tonnes CO₂ per annum.

Lex Momentum helped a leading customer contact and marketing services company achieve compliance with Duty of Care legislation.

The directors in this company wanted to understand the key health and safety risks arising from driving on business, which included large numbers of both company car drivers and grey fleet/ casual use drivers. Lex Momentum carried out a review of fleet risks and devised a tiered action plan to ensure compliance with Duty of Care legislation, based on the varying forms of risk. Recommendations included the development of new procedures, monitoring and management systems as well as policy documentation, a driver handbook and an auditing system as part of a comprehensive risk programme which was ratified at Board level. The solutions were required to be cost effective, practical and realistically implementable.

Lex helped a leading provider of equipment and support services to reduce fuel costs by £250,000 and operational downtime by 10%.

This leading support services company (with a fleet of 2,500 vehicles) wanted greater control of fleet costs and, in particular, increased control over the consumption of fuel. Lex Momentum worked with board level stakeholders and operational managers to reduce vehicle downtime and identify fuel savings that would not impact negatively on the core business. Key recommendations included the creation of a pool of company specification rental vans managed by a rental company. Over £250,000 of savings have been attributed to the reduction in fuel consumption. The project also resulted in the production of a new set of car and LCV policy documents and handbooks in support of its Duty of Care obligations.

Lex Momentum fundamentally redesigned the car policy for a global IT company to align with new priorities for employee engagement and flexibility.

The directors of HR and Procurement wished to establish how they could increase the attractiveness and take up of the company car scheme whilst reducing costs and raising environmental performance. The existing car policy sat within a complex flexible benefits structure and Lex Momentum’s first step was to conduct a comprehensive survey of employee preferences for company cars. Following a response from over 2,000 employees, Lex Momentum ran focus groups to further explore and validate findings. We designed a new policy encompassing a strong CO₂ theme which gave employees more choice and better value vehicles whilst delivering cost savings to the company. Car benefits are now fully aligned to the corporate people agenda.
